URGENT: Afghan Christians Facing Potential Deportation to Afghanistan
Hundreds of Afghan Christians fled to the United States as refugees when the Taliban took over Afghanistan in 2021. They were religious refugees refusing to bow to the Taliban's command to revert to Islam. They followed all legal pathways to enter the United States.
But recent policy changes have put them at risk of being sent back to the country they fled for their lives.
If deported from the United States back to Afghanistan, these Christians face:
- Immediate arrest at the border
- Torture to reveal the names of other Christians
- Execution under the Taliban interpretation of Sharia law
- Family persecution, including violence and death, for relatives of identified Christians
This is not about politics—it's about preventing the execution of Afghan Christians who followed all legal processes to seek safety in our country.
By signing the petition, you're calling upon the US Department of Homeland Security to:
- Recognize that Afghanistan is hostile to Christians
- Give Afghan refugees who legally entered the US time for their asylum claims to be properly vetted and processed
We are bringing this petition before the White House. Your signature will help us show that Americans are standing up to protect the lives of Afghan Christians.
Thank you for standing with Afghan Christians.

We, the undersigned, urgently request that the Department of Homeland Security:
- Recognize that Afghanistan remains a Country of Particular Concern where Christians face severe persecution, consistent with U.S. State Department assessments
- Immediately rescind the April 10, 2025 statement by DHS Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs, Tricia McLaughlin, that "Afghanistan no longer continues to meet the statutory requirements for its Temporary Protected Status designation."
- Allow Afghan Christians and minorities who have documented persecution due to religion or belief and who legally entered the U.S. to have Temporary Protected Status while their asylum claims are properly vetted and processed.
The Taliban government actively persecutes Christians in Afghanistan. Evidence shows:
- Christians are specifically flagged at border crossings for arrest
- Converts face torture in detention and likely execution under Taliban enforced Sharia
- Taliban laws make Islamic worship compulsory and any practice of Christianity illegal
- Religious police have powers to enter private homes and search for non-Islamic materials
- The Taliban offers financial rewards to citizens who report Christians
